Spartans secure 4 point weekend with a second to spare!

On Saturday the Spartans made the hour long trip to Grimsby, home of the smallest rink in the ENL. Grimsby is always a difficult place for visiting teams to come and play, such a small rink means less time on the puck, more shots and plenty of contact.

The first period started well with an early long range goal from Si Manning. Sheffield followed up with another goal soon after, before taking a series of penalties. Grimsby took full advantage, with two separate powerplay goals to level the score. The Spartans managed to grab another goal to take the lead to end the period 3-2.

Spartans win at Billingham!

The Sheffield Spartans traveled to the Billingham Forum at the weekend to face the Bombers, a team they were yet to beat on Billingham home ice in their three season history.

Sheffield started the game slowly, and took some unnecessary penalties which gave the Bombers a 5 on 3 advantage. A well worked powerplay gave the home team the lead with a goal from Billingham captain Windridge. With another penalty stacked up, the 5 on 3 advantage remained and another Billingham goal followed. It was not long before Billingham took penalties of their own, which resulted in Scott Wards dismissal from the game. After 10 minutes the penalties were finally sorted out and the game continued. With only a few minutes remaining, the first period was played out with no further goals.

Spartans grind out a win.

The Sheffield Spartans faced an improved Flintshire Freeze side at the weekend and battled hard to take home two points.

The Spartans got off to a great start with early goals from Will Barron and Ryan Handisides. The freeze then answered back with 2 goals of their own to level the score. Shaun Ashton thought he put the Spartans back in the lead with a close range finish, but the goal was disallowed just minutes before the end of the first.
