The Sheffield Spartans faced an improved Flintshire Freeze side at the weekend and battled hard to take home two points.

The Spartans got off to a great start with early goals from Will Barron and Ryan Handisides. The freeze then answered back with 2 goals of their own to level the score. Shaun Ashton thought he put the Spartans back in the lead with a close range finish, but the goal was disallowed just minutes before the end of the first.

The second period saw more of the same, the Spartans went ahead twice, only for Flintshire to equalize each time. The third a neat backhand finish from Matt Haywood, followed by a nice tip in by Joe Millard from a Simon Manning slapshot.

The Spartans continued to push for the win and were caught out as Flintshire scored, but this goal was disallowed due to a player in the crease. With only five minutes left and a powerplay advantage, Dan Hughes fired home a shot from the point to put the Spartans in the lead. As Flintshire pushed for another equalizer Andrew Turner scored to seal the win.

Andrew Turner 1+2. Will Barron, Joe Millard and Ryan Handisides 1+1. Nick Manning 0+2. Dan Hughes and Matt Haywood 1+0. Simon Manning and Christian Bertram 0+1.
