Spartans secure cup final place.

The Sheffield Spartans secured their place in the ENIHL cup final last weekend with a double points win over Newcastle, Final score: Sheffield 3 – Newcastle 1. With only one cup game remaining (at home against Flintshire on the 9th Feb), no other teams in the north cup group can catch the Spartans, who have won every cup game this season. The Spartans will go on to play the winner of the southern cup group in a two-leg final.

The Spartans face Manchester on Saturday at IceSheffield, Face off: 19.30. This is a must win game for the Spartans to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Spartans maintain 100% record in the cup, but slip up in the league.

A good run of recent results has seen the Spartans maintain a 100% record in the cup campaign. A big win away at Blackburn set the tone. After going 1-0 down in the first, the Spartans responded with an outstanding 4-0 second period with goals from Matt Haywood, Scott Morris, Dan Hughes and Nick Manning. With the score 4-1 going into the third period, Blackburn put a lot of pressure on Sheffield and found a second goal bringing the score to 4-2. Spartans Stregthen Squad!

Ross BurbearyThe Spartans squad has been strengthened recently with three players added to the line up. Two of which are the recent signings of Ross Burbeary and Ryan Johnson. Both Ross and Ryan are big solid defenders, who aren’t afraid to put some big hits out and solid shots from point. Ross is returning to the Spartans after he was unable to play due to other commitments whilst Ryan joins us from the Scimitars EPL team. The third player is Richie Oliver, who has returned after a nasty knee injury at Whitley Bay in September. Richie was a vital part of last season’s cup & playoff wining team and was voted best forward and shared player’s player with Lee Haywood.
