Spartans face another difficult test this weekend when they face an in form Blackburn Hawks on Saturday 15th February at Sheffield, facing off at 7.30pm.
Hawks have had the upper hand against Spartans over the last two few seasons and will be looking to continue that dominance as they bid to keep the pressure on Solway Sharks should they slip up at the top of the table. This has been evident when they thrashed us 6-0 in Blackburn earlier in the season which has proved to be a one off performance for Spartans this season who put up a great fight recently, playing some good hockey on our last visit over the Pennines only to lose 7-4. Hawks showed their class that night and have without doubt been the toughest opposition we have faced this season.
Spartans though have ensured that Hawks haven’t had things their own way all the time as on their last visit when the teams drew 1-1 after a dreadful error allowed Blackburn to sneak a point from a game that was there for the taking for Spartans. It won’t be easy this Saturday but that’s been the case all season, one which Spartans have risen to and embraced the challenge to see us pushing for a play-off spot. So here we are again, needing two points to keep that challenge alive but with our recent showings coupled with our strong home form we have reason to be optimistic.
Spartans v Hawks encounters are normally good, fair, physical games and there have been some great encounters between the teams over the years and with both teams wanting and needing the win, there is no reason why Saturday ‘s game at Ice Sheffield shouldn’t be an entertaining and exciting affair. Please note the face off time for this game is 7.30pm.
