The Sheffield Spartans are delighted to announce the return of Andrew Turner and David Pyatt.
Andrew has played for Sheffield at every age group from the Samurai U 10’s to Scimitars, representing England and Great Britain along the way with brief spells at Peterborough Phantoms and Solihul Barons in the EPL. Coach Wilcox says; Andrew is a big unit and a great player to have on the team, all through his junior career Andrew played forward however in the the last few seasons for the Spartans he has played defense. I will be looking to utilize Andrews size and power as a utility player next season Wilcox added.
Andrew says : “2012/13 is going to be a big season for Sheffield, we have alot to prove after last season’s poor results. We know what let us down and where we need to improve, we won’t be throwing away much needed points again. With a few new structures in place our league position can only improve. I am looking forward to playing with some potential new players along with the core of Sheffield lads this year, it should be a good season for us”.
We are also delighted to have David Pyatt on board for 2012/2013. David rejoined the Spartans mid way through last season and steadied the ship in the Spartans defense. David was arguably our most consistent performer using his experience from previously playing at a high level of BNL hockey with the Hull Stingrays.
On resigning for the Spartans, David added: “As the start of the new season comes upon the horizon the Spartans organisation is always a little apprehensive, the recent record of developing young players who have moved up through the leagues brings a challenge to stay competitive as the team is ever changing, this season will hopefully see the next crop of talented young players move up from the U18’s and onto the Spartans roster.
The Spartans will be returning for the 12\13 season with the knowledge that no team has a right to be in NIHl1 as the loss of Nottingham has proven, so we will have prepared hard and be in search of playoff hockey at the right end of the table. The NIHl is looking likely to be very competitive again, after our poor start last season we aim to be more stable and hopefully will show that with some early results to kick start the season”.
