Spartans are delighted to announce the teams all time leading point scorer #9 Nick Manning is a Spartan once more.
Manning has played for the Spartans since the inaugural season in 2005 chalking up 82 goals and 134 assists in 161 games. He leads the Spartans scoring charts in all time top points, all time top goals and all time top assists. Last Season Nick scored 17 goals and 24 assists (41 points), which placed him 6th in the leagues top 10 points scorers.
Manning on agreeing to stay with the Spartans added “I’m really looking forward to next season already, and those that know me will know that that’s quite rare.
In all seriousness, it should be a great year for the league, and hopefully for us as a team too. I’ve spoken to a few of the other ‘senior’ guys, & I think there’s a lot more optimism about the upcoming season than there has been for quite a few years. We’ve always had a talented squad, and one or two potential additions will hopefully see us back in the playoff mix after a couple of years’ missing out.
I also think Chris resigning as player coach is massive for us. It was a big ask last year; being thrown in at such short notice, amongst friends and teammates, and having to become an authoritative figure. He did a great job, and I can only see him getting better as he gains experience in the role.
It should be a good year for the league as a whole, with two very talented teams coming up into the league in Solway and Sutton; I see it being as competitive as ever. That being said, we should have everything in place now to become a successful NIHL/ENL/ED1 team again, and I’m looking forward to trying to achieve that with the lads next year”.
