Sheffield Spartans have it all to play for this weekend at Ice Sheffield in what is the final game of the regular season with a play-off place at stake. A win for Sutton Sting would see them through to Dumfries in April whilst Spartans need to avoid defeat to book their place up in Scotland. It promises to be a cracker of a game, not just because of what is at stake but also the rivalry the two teams share with many ex-Sheffield players on the Sting roster. This is probably a contributory factor as why games between Spartans and Sutton are tense, closely fought contests, especially as both teams share the same ice with home advantage not really being an issue for either which also contributes to the closeness of games. One thing for sure is that there is no reason why Saturday’s game at Ice Sheffield should be any different and for the record it is in fact Sutton who are the home team for this fixture.
Spartans Coach Martin White looks ahead to the game by adding…”This Saturday sees us face Sutton to decide who takes the final playoff spot. Our other games this season vs the Sting have been closely contested and despite being shorter on playing personnel this season compared to previous campaigns they’re much harder to beat, credit to Matt Darlow for a job well done in this regard.
Our last game vs Blackburn showed once again we can cut it with the best of them if we apply ourselves correctly and diligently for the full game, and barring a cruel twist of fate we would have handed Blackburn their first defeat of the campaign, despite the disappointment of a draw the point helps us in our game vs Sutton and the performance was exactly what we wanted and had discussed prior to the game. If we produce the same on Saturday we can only back ourselves to get the result we need to achieve the final spot and finish the two year plan ex head coach Mark Heron and myself discussed, looking back it seems such a long time ago!
Come down and support us in our bid to make the play-offs, your support is both appreciated and needed and it’d be nice to see plenty of #allsheffield #allspartans fans in attendance”
