On Sunday Spartans travelled to Solihull to face the Barons on home ice to go down 10-3 in an entertaining game of hockey with the home team worthy winners. It was a close opening period but Spartans found themselves 3-1 down; Ollie Barron equalising for Spartans in the process. Spartans were hit on the counter after nearly pulling one back to go 4-1 down to then concede two softish goals from our point of view but ones that were put away well by Solihull. A spirited performance from a short benched Spartans was rewarded when Will Barron tipped one in from a Ben Jones shot. Barons attacks seemed relentless at times and put the game well out of Spartans reach with four more goals, a couple of which were fortunate in some regards but it’s difficult to argue they weren’t deserved with Andy Bagshaw in fine form between the pipes. Spartans didn’t give up and were rewarded with a consolation goal put away by Elliott Knell. Scorers for Solihull were Edward Eaton (2), Tomas Janak (2), Perry Doyle (2), Richard Crowe, Josh Bruce, Thomas Soar & Mathew Maurice…Ben Jones was awarded Spartans Man of the Match.
