Well, here we are again, September and the start of 2011-2012 season. The summer is always a busy time, preparation of fixtures, negotiating ice time, working with the EIHA, and obviously working with the players and coaches on registrations ensuring we are ready for the first face off of the season. We have had some players leave us over this summer; Chris Turner has returned to Sweden to continue his studying, we wish him well; I know we will see him at holiday times, as he always likes to keep in touch with the team. Richie Oliver has signed for Sutton Sting, and Scott Glover has signed for Blackburn Hawks, we wish them lots of luck for their season and hockey futures! The main core of the Spartans remains intact from last season; we will still be using the U18 players such as Elliott Knell and Luke Unwin wherever possible, whilst Shaun Wild has now made the step up to ENL full time along with Nathan Britton. We have made one new signing in Shannon Lingwood; Shannon has previously played for Bradford and Blackburn and I know he is looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Spartans.
Chris Wilcox and Jon Woolhouse will be jointly coaching the team this season, and I think it’s safe to say, they are fully committed and focused on taking the Spartans all the way this season which starts this Sunday in Nottingham, followed by a trip to Whitley Bay next week in what appears to be a tricky start but will give Chris & Jon a fair idea on how much the team has progressed & developed over recent weeks in line with personal & team objectives that have been set..
As ever, we thank you all for your continued support which is appreciated by everyone involved with the club, in particular the players & we look forward to seeing you all for our first home game against Coventry at Ice Sheffield on Sunday 18th September, facing off at 7.30pm.
